Fans seem to forget sometimes that "warp drive" has scientific parity with "magic missile."

Subject from Brian Takle's essay on Matrix: Revolutions. He's written one on Matrix: Reloaded, too.

I finally got around to watching Matrix: Revolutions and I enjoyed it purely on the basis of the action scenes and the special effects. As far as the philosophical aspects of the movie go, I was pretty much like, "Huh?" So I went hunting for interpretations of the movie, and found the essays I lihnked to above. I think they're a pretty viable interpretation of the meaning of the movies, and at the very least they explain the origin/significance of the various names that are given to people, places and vehicles.

I like allegories quite a bit. I really enjoyed First Wave even though the writing was horrific, because it used sci-fi elements to expose various human weaknesses and also highlight human strengths, sort of like the original Star Trek TV series. You know, I probably used the wrong word there. Something else, not allegory? Whatever it is, I appreciated it in the Matrix trilogy too.

I really like the Cirque du Soleil: Fire Within series on Bravo. I'm a sucker for behind-the-scenes making-of type shows, and I love the Cirque du Soleil shows, so of course I'm hooked. :)

The SCF has been really great hockey. But personally, as I can't fully support either team, there isn't the emotional stake that gives the games that different feel, that feel of urgency, that feel of teetering between joy and crushing disappointment. I'm watching and appreciating the games, but from the somewhat detached perspective of watching a good regular season game between two teams that I don't have strong feelings for.

For those who say that this SCF is boring, the only explanation that I can come up with is that they are fans of their own team first, and fans of hockey second. *shrugs* Nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with puckbunnies, etc. :)

I'm supporting the Flames largely because of the Sharks connection - Darryl and Miikkachu - but I don't particularly like Iginla, and being captain of the team, he kinda' defines it.

It's good that you're watching, though. I think you'll be glad you did when it's all over. :)

Thanks for the links to those Matrix essays. I had wanted to look for interpretations of those movies ever since I saw them but never bothered.

Also, when is that Cirque de Soleil series on? I had caught a couple of episodes of it a while back and I really enjoyed them. Perhaps I should go check the listings...

You're welcome! Those things are like an honors thesis. :P

I just have it set to record on TiVo so I have no idea when they are, sorry.
